There are many women from around the world that are unable to travel for treatment of vaginismus.
Sometimes it is possible to counsel women with vaginismus via the internet. The use of dilators without Botox injections is commonly used in a variety of techniques, therefore proper counseling with dilators can be helpful, especially in women who are able to tolerate some penetration. There is considerable misinformation on how to use dilators. Often inadequate dilation is recommended.
This technique of counseling will likely not work for the woman who is unable to tolerate any form of penetration. The severe vaginismus patient (Pacik grade 5 vaginismus) carries considerable fear and anxiety, and any attempted treatment without anesthesia tends to fail. This is more fully explained in a detailed article about internet counseling.
Internet counseling involves online conversations, email follow up and advice and support regarding progression to intercourse and continued dilation beyond intercourse. Daily logs are recorded and reviewed by Dr. Pacik.
It is of course best to be under the care of a health care professional who is knowledgeable in the diagnosis and treatment of vaginismus. When this is not possible, counseling over the internet can be considered for some of the less severe vaginismus patients.
